At the breakfast at Ararat Park Hyatt Moscow attended by owners and top managers of Russian companies we discussed the prospects of M&A as a growth tool. We also discussed key aspects of M&A, typical pitfalls in this process, and how to avoid these pitfalls.
Kudrat Nurmatov and Ruslan Izmailov, managing partners of ink Advisory, emphasized the following aspects in their presentations:
- M&A has always been an option for growing businesses, alongside organic growth. In recent years, however, M&A has become the primary and preferred development option in many industries.
- The main challenge for companies using M&A as a tool is identifying quality targets, effectively organizing the negotiation and transaction process, and successfully closing the deal.
- Many acquirers face difficulties during the business integration phase after the deal due to the failure to take into account differences in corporate cultures. However, an even greater number of win-win deals never reach the final signing stage due to mistakes made during the planning and negotiation stages.
